Guiding Principles

The INGAA Foundation Member companies represent the entire value chain for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of interstate natural gas pipeline and storage systems. Together, we are dedicated to creating and maintaining a safe and reliable natural gas pipeline system to serve the energy needs of North America.

Toward that end, the member companies of the INGAA Foundation are committed to the following guiding principles.

SAFE OPERATION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WE DO.

We are committed to making the North American Interstate Natural Gas Pipeline System the safest form of energy transportation.

Our pipelines have been designed and constructed with the utmost concern for providing a safe and quality product.  We assess construction and operating risks, and develop and implement plans to eliminate or minimize risks and threats to safe operation while maintaining a high-quality standard throughout the life cycle of the assets. We pursue continuous improvement on safety and quality. We hire, maintain and train a workforce that has the experience, skills and resources to design, construct, operate, and maintain a safe and high-quality pipeline system. We coordinate our efforts amongst pipeline owners, suppliers, and customers to achieve consistent safe work practices and the production of high-quality products for use within our industry. We work to educate our workforce and the public and public officials about their role in pipeline safety and quality.

Our objective is to work in an accident-free environment. We want our employees to return to their homes healthy and free of on-the-job injuries.

We work to ensure that our employees follow safety and quality procedures and use the appropriate personal protective equipment for the job. We identify and seek to eliminate unsafe work conditions. Toward that end, we will continue to establish a safety and quality culture within our companies.

WE PROVIDE A RELIABLE AND EFFICIENT NATURAL GAS PIPELINE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM

As a system of pipeline operators and providers of products and services to those operators, our business is moving natural gas to provide North America with a dependable source of energy. Designing and maintaining our pipelines to ensure we meet our quality standards and ensure reliability and efficiency is a basic function and serves our best interests and those of our customers and the communities they serve. We work with local officials and emergency responders to ensure they understand how to prepare for and respond in the event of an emergency.

WE ARE GOOD NEIGHBORS TO LANDOWNERS AND COMMUNITIES

To transport energy, interstate natural gas pipelines must cross private and public lands. We treat the landowners and communities with respect by mitigating impacts, responding to landowner concerns, and providing accurate and timely information.

WE COMPLY WITH ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL REGULATIONS

We establish and enforce company policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, quality, and economic regulatory requirements applicable to the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of the pipeline system. We monitor federal and state agency regulatory changes or new regulations for applicability and ensure they are incorporated in our policies and procedures in a timely manner.

WE ACT WITH INTEGRITY

We deal fairly and honestly with our business partners and stakeholders.
