Don Santa, president and chief executive officer of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, today lauded the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of H.R. 8, the North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act of 2015. The bill was approved 249 to 174:
“We appreciate the House acting on legislation to improve energy infrastructure development, including natural gas pipelines. In particular, we applaud the leadership of Chairman Fred Upton of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
“America has plentiful, proven supplies of natural gas. Now we need the pipeline infrastructure in place to enable Americans to benefit fully from this natural gas abundance in their homes and businesses, at power plants that are generating clean, affordable electricity, and at factories that are providing American jobs.
“This legislation takes modest steps to improve the pipeline permitting process, while respecting the obligation to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act and other environmental laws.
“We hope the Senate takes prompt action on similar legislation.”
