INGAA’s Don Santa commends Obama for recognizing natural gas as key pillar of U.S. energy policy
WASHINGTON – Don Santa, president and CEO of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, today released the following statement, commending President Barack Obama for recognizing the important role natural gas will play in our nation’s energy future:
“We commend President Obama for recognizing the role natural gas can play as a pillar of U.S. energy policy, and we agree there are no quick fixes to our energy challenges.
“Natural gas is domestic, abundant, affordable and cleaner burning than other fossil fuels. These properties, plus our existing safe and reliable delivery infrastructure, make natural gas a product that can be used now to help meet our energy challenges, and in the future to help us reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources. In fact, when it comes to natural gas, the United States already has achieved near energy independence, with 98 percent of gas supplies coming from either the United States or Canada.
“Moving forward, it’s about more than just promoting natural gas vehicles, although that is a worthy effort. It’s also about converting more of our power generation to reliable, clean-burning natural gas to help reach the president’s goals.”
