INGAA Welcomes Senate Passage of Bipartisan Infrastructure Package

Amy Andryszak, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA), issued the below statement following the Senate’s vote to advance H.R. 3684 or the INVEST in America Act:

“The last nine months have demonstrated that Congress can achieve bold energy and climate goals when it works on a bipartisan basis and collaborates with stakeholders on policies that have strong support in communities across our country.  Last December, Congress passed the historic PIPES Act of 2020, which directed updates to PHMSA regulations to reflect the latest pipeline safety and methane emissions reduction technologies, and the Energy Act of 2020, which authorized important energy innovation programs for technologies critical to achieving a clean energy future.

Today, the Senate advanced a bipartisan infrastructure bill that creates new, game-changing programs for deploying low-carbon energy solutions and the pipeline and storage infrastructure that will deliver those solutions.  The bill includes programs to advance the transportation and storage of hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide, building upon the progress made in the Energy Act of 2020.  The bill also includes important steps to secure our energy systems.  We hope to see these provisions signed into law soon.

While INGAA is encouraged by this recent progress, there is much more we can do to put our country’s natural gas infrastructure to work achieving our shared energy, climate, and jobs goals through collaboration between our industry, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, and the Biden Administration.  President Biden acknowledged the importance of natural gas during his campaign, and any serious plan to both address global climate change and develop a modern, reliable, and affordable energy system must include natural gas as a foundational fuel.  INGAA looks forward to the work ahead.”
