Amy Andryszak, president and Chief Executive Officer of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of American issued the following statement on President Biden’s first State of the Union Address:
“President Biden made clear this evening that the United States stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and our allies in Europe against Russian military aggression, and so do we. The U.S. natural gas industry is ready, willing, and able to do our part during this time of geopolitical uncertainly by helping our allies and trading partners meet natural gas needs.
“Tonight, the President spoke about “investing in America,” “growing the workforce,” and “building the economy.” President Biden missed the opportunity to acknowledge the value of natural gas, and the infrastructure that safely moves it from where it is produced to where it is consumed, and the role it plays in global energy security and the road to economic prosperity. Lower bills, job creation, reduced emissions, and enhanced energy reliability are just a few of the advantages natural gas infrastructure projects have generated and will continue to provide our country for decades to come.
“During this time of uncertainty, America’s strategic position as the leading natural gas producer only further cements the central role of natural gas in achieving our global climate ambitions and providing allies and trading partners in Europe with a reliable and secure source of energy. Our industry’s ability to support Europe during this crisis is no accident. It was enabled by American innovation and federal and state policies that supported natural gas infrastructure investment. To continue to help Europe now and secure our energy future, we need a predictable and reliable permitting framework which will allow for the continued development of needed natural gas infrastructure.”
