INGAA Statement on President Biden’s Emissions Reduction Announcement
WASHINGTON, DC, April 22, 2021 — Amy Andryszak, President and Chief Executive Office of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA), issued the following statement in anticipation of President Biden’s announcement of a new national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions target:
“Setting economy-wide goals to reduce GHG emissions is important to combatting global climate change. INGAA members are fully committed to being part of the climate solution and working as an industry towards reaching net-zero GHG emissions from natural gas transmission and storage operations by no later than 2050. We adamantly believe that successful progress towards a clean energy future must include investments in natural gas infrastructure.
Natural gas, and the infrastructure that moves it, provides tremendous opportunities for our nation and world to achieve climate goals. The U.S. natural gas transmission and storage network continues to enable GHG emissions reductions across the natural gas value chain while supporting the growth of renewable energy. Continued investment in modernizing and expanding our nation’s infrastructure will provide more opportunities to further pursue low carbon solutions, such as renewable natural gas, hydrogen, and captured CO2 emissions.
INGAA encourages the Administration to embrace the foundational role that natural gas infrastructure will continue to play in reducing GHG emissions and ensuring reliable and affordable energy for all Americans, and we stand ready to work with policymakers on innovative solutions to make America’s environmental and economic goals a reality.”
