WASHINGTON, D.C., November 18, 2025 – The Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA), a trade association representing the vast majority of the interstate natural gas transmission pipeline companies in the U.S. and Canada, published its 2025 Climate Report: Methane and GHG Emissions Performance, highlighting two additional years of consecutive progress in reducing methane emissions and improving methane intensity from the membership.
INGAA’s Climate Report, which collects, aggregates, and shares emissions data related to member company assets, aims to provide transparency, empower policymakers and stakeholders with information to make informed decisions related to the natural gas industry, and encourage innovation, ultimately guiding the transmission and storage sector toward further progress.
The 2025 report analyzes member company data for the years 2023 and 2024. Highlights include:
- INGAA members achieved a methane intensity of 0.061% in 2024, improving from 0.068% in 2023 and continuing a three-year trend of improvement.
- More than 99.9% of natural gas transported through INGAA members’ assets reached its intended destination.
- In 2023, and again in 2024, total methane emissions from INGAA members were less than 1% of the total methane emissions in the United States.
- INGAA members exceeded INGAA’s GHG Emissions Commitments for conducting leak surveys and repairs on pipelines and compressor stations, and minimizing methane emissions from pipeline blowdowns.
“For at least three years now, INGAA members have reduced methane emissions from their operations while increasing the amount of natural gas being transported,” said INGAA’s Vice President of Environment, Scott Yager. “This year’s report highlights our industry’s continued dedication to implementing operational enhancements and deploying cutting-edge technologies to reduce emissions while safely and reliably delivering affordable, clean energy to homes and businesses.”
