A reliable power grid requires more pipelines

Over the past few weeks, alarms have sounded about potential grid reliability shortfalls and increased energy prices this summer. These warnings come as states across the U.S., particularly in the Northeast, face rapidly growing demand projections, making it clear: The integrity of our electric grids must be prioritized. 

 On May 14, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) — the entity responsible for making sure our power grid is reliable — announced that record load growth and high temperatures are expected to strain the electric grid this summer. The following day, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) released its summer assessment stating regions across the country could face generation shortages due to increased demand, high temperatures and growing uncertainty about hurricane season.
