Amy Andryszak, President and CEO of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) issued the below statement following the release of EPA’s proposed Methane Emissions regulations.
“As detailed in our Climate Report released today, INGAA members are making important progress minimizing methane emissions. INGAA supports federal new and existing source methane emissions regulations that are safe, effective, and protect energy reliability. To be successful, methane regulations should allow our engineers and technicians appropriate flexibility to further reduce emissions from natural gas operations, using a range of available technologies and tools, while avoiding activities that may impair energy reliability. We are reviewing the details of the EPA’s proposals against these principles and plan to engage with the agency on any of the proposed requirements that will impact the natural gas transmission industry’s ability to efficiently deliver reliable energy while minimizing emissions.
“In recent years, the natural gas transmission industry has faced significant uncertainty regarding federal methane regulations. A stable, effective regulatory framework will allow our industry to make the critical natural gas infrastructure investments necessary to reduce emissions and meet increasing demand for cleaner and more affordable energy. Furthermore, finalizing effective federal standards is a better way to minimize methane emissions than new taxes on natural gas currently being considered by Congress, which risk raising utility bills for families and businesses without a commensurate reduction in emissions.”
